Shute Shield Grand Final: 2018 finalists battle it out again

It’s a case of history repeating in the 2019 Shute Shield Grand Final, as Sydney University take on Warringah on Saturday afternoon.

It will be one of four fixtures at Bankwest Stadium in a first for Sydney club rugby, with Uni featuring in all four grades.

The Students will be looking to make it back-to-back titles, while the Rats will want to atone for defeat in last year’s decider as the Shield comes to a close for another season.

Warringah come in off the back of a hard-fought win over Eastwood, while the Students made light work of Norths in a 40-7 victory.

Uni will enter the Grand Final heavy favourites, but Warringah will feel confident having snared a one-point victory over the Minor Premiers in Round 13.

In a blow for Rob Taylor’s side, blindside flanker Nick Champion De Crespigny has been handed a three-match suspension after being cited for an illegal clean out during their semi-final win.

Conversely the Rats, led by Ken Catchpole Medallist, Hamish Angus will enter the fixture largely unchanged.

Gates to Bankwest Stadium open at 8am.
