For the first time ever, NSW Rugby will bring the beach to the bush when the Dubbo Rhinos host the Beach Rugby Tournament this Saturday.

It might be hard to imagine, but come this weekend, the Dubbo Showgrounds will transform into a 500-tonne sand field.

Dubbo Rhinos Events Manager Sarah Nixon said this was a fantastic initiative.

“We always strive to make a positive impact on our local community and we’re working towards putting on more events like this that are accessible to people living in regional NSW,” Nixon said.

“If the Beach Rugby Tournament could become a regular fixture on our calendar that would be fantastic. One of the aims of this event is to put on a fun day for families and friends, especially given the severe drought in our zone,” Nixon added.

Starting at 0900 AEST, the one-day tournament will see 10 men’s and six women’s teams compete.

NSW Waratahs player Tom Robertson and NSW Super W squad member Mahalia Murphy will be there cheering on the competitors and may even run some water and provide some tricks of the trade!

It's not too late to load up the car, ask the boss for an early mark and travel over the mountains to Central West NSW to the city of Dubbo for the weekend.
