Finals footy kick off in the country

By NSW Rugby Media

NSW Country Rugby Union is gearing up for another finals series for all nine Senior and Junior zones across NSW. And we will be helping the drought-stricken farmers of NSW along the way.

The first of many Grand Finals kick off in Upper Mid North Coast and the Central West Graincorp Cup (South and North) this weekend.

Upper Mid North Coast (MNC) involves clubs from Port Macquarie up to Grafton along the Pacific Highway. The MNC zone finals series includes Under 14s – Under 18s, Women’s Sevens and First Grade. A huge day of rugby which kicks off at 9am.

Fixtures are as follows:

Saturday 11 August

Upper Mid North Coast competition at Oxley Oval, Port Macquarie

1st Grade Hastings Valley vs Coffs Harbour
Women’s Sevens Port Macquarie vs Wauchope
Reserve Grade Hastings Valley vs Grafton
Under 18s Kempsey vs Southern Cross University
Under 16s Port Macquarie vs Southern Cross University
Under 14s Southern Cross University vs Hastings Valley

Central West

The Graincorp Cup in the Central West has a southern division and a northern division. This competition consists of clubs with only one team from smaller towns in the Central West.

The South will be played between next door neighbours Harden Rugby Club and Temora Rugby club. The North will be played by neighbouring Geurie and Wellington. These fixtures always bring out the passion and tribalism that towns have for their sporting teams.

NSW Country Rugby Union(NSWCRU) in conjunction with NSW Farmers will have specially-branded donation buckets at all zones finals with all proceeds going to the NSW Farmers Drought Relief.

NSWCRU Executive Officer Stephen O’Brien said: “It is well documented how far reaching and devastating the drought has impacted our State and this is our way to unite from the bush to the beach and help our farmers and their families.”
